The pituitary gland is about the size of a pea that sits in the sphenoid bone which is just behind the bridge of our nose. It is attached to the base of our brain by a thin stalk. The pituitary gland is controlled by the hypothalamus and is often called the “master gland” because it produces hormones which stimulate other hormone glands in our body to produce hormones, including the thyroid and adrenal glands, the ovaries and testicles.
